Summary

Christian leadership is the faithful stewardship of the truth of God's Word. This stewardship is carried out by servants who know they answer to Christ: faithful, accountable, and living by the same standards they hold others to. The sermon unfolds this text under three headings. First, A Leader Is Faithful (vv. 1–2) — ministers are servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God, and what is required of stewards is that they be found faithful. Second, A Leader Has Accountability (vv. 3–5) — human judgment counts for little because the Lord is the judge, and he will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and disclose the purposes of the heart, so that each may receive his commendation from God. Third, A Leader Models with Integrity and Humility (vv. 6–7) — Paul warns against pride and against making oneself out to be something when one is nothing, for what do we have that we did not receive? If then we received it, why do we boast as if we did not receive it?
