Summary

Paul warns the Corinthians against deceiving themselves with worldly wisdom and reminds them that all things belong to those who are in Christ. The sermon unfolds this text under three headings. First, God Desires a Pure Temple — the church is not a platform for human boasting but the dwelling place of the Spirit, and God will not share his temple with the wisdom of this age. Second, Build What Is Righteous — the Corinthians must become fools in the world's eyes so that they may be wise in God's eyes, rejecting the envy and strife that destroy the building and embracing the humility that honors Christ. Third, For All Things Are Yours — whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, the world or life or death, the present or the future, all are the inheritance of God's people, and Christ himself is theirs, so that no one may boast in men but only in the Lord.
