Corpus Christi — One in Christ

One in Christ

Brendon Helm · 26 min

Summary

Paul appeals to the Corinthians by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ that there be no divisions among them, but that they be perfectly joined together in the same mind and the same judgment. The sermon unfolds this appeal under three headings. First, Christ Calls His Church to Visible Unity — the oneness of the body is not merely inward or invisible but is to be manifest in shared confession, common worship, and love that the watching world can see. Second, Division Reveals a Misplaced Allegiance — the quarrels of Corinth ("I follow Paul," "I follow Apollos," "I follow Cephas") expose hearts that have exchanged loyalty to Christ for loyalty to men, gifts, or parties. Third, Christ Alone Must Receive Our Loyalty — Christ is not divided; He alone was crucified for us, and into His name alone we were baptized. All ministers, gifts, and traditions are servants pointing away from themselves to the one Lord who purchased the church with His own blood.
